Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Worthing
Sussex Senior Challenge Cup Final
Date: Tuesday 10 May 2022
Venue: American Express Community Stadium, Brighton & Hove Albion FC
“I was so proud to represent my county.” Jasper tells us of what a great experience it was playing our Under-18s Representative Squad, an experience he really kicked on from.
After being released from Brighton at under-16s, Jasper was eventually invited down to Worthing by his former under-14s coach, Adam Hinshelwood.
Jasper is now enjoying a breakthrough season with the first team at Worthing and has loved every minute of it.
“The last couple of years especially I've felt I've been confident enough to come in and perform the best I can. This season though having a proper full season I feel like I really cemented a place in the side early in the season and went from strength to strength as it went on.
“It's absolutely priceless the opportunities, Nath [Bowen] and Adam have given me, I can't give the coaching staff and George [Dowell] enough credit, for the way the club is run.
“When you have players like me, and a load of others that have come through the academy, it just shows the direction and pathway the club is taking.
“It's a really exciting time to be part of Worthing either as a player, staff or fan because opportunities like this don't come around very often.”
In terms of this evening’s final itself, Jasper believes the strong season they have had could set them up nicely.
“In terms of our personal season, we'd have liked an FA Cup run as well but you can't have everything! But obviously it's been an amazing season.
“The changing room has always been brilliant, there's never ever been a time when I've been here where it's felt a bit intense, or morale is quite low.
“Morale is always high which is something with the group of lads we've got is phenomenal. But the high we're on, getting another Sussex club back in the National League as well, it couldn't come at a more perfect time for us to play in the final.”
Jasper is one of a number of players at Worthing who have previously played for Brighton and he believes they will definitely want to put on a show.
“We had it two years ago now when we played them in the Semi-Final, it's a very similar squad. None of the boys need getting up for a game, every game is a massive game for us.
“I think especially for a few of us that have come through the ranks at Brighton, it is a real opportunity for us to go to the Amex, prove a point and really put on a show.”
Talking of the Amex, there’s more to it than the players stepping out, but a great occasion for the club as a whole.
“It will be incredible to step out at the Amex, but we've got Stu who does so much for the club, he puts the kit out for us and for a couple of years now he's really wanted to put the kit out at the Amex, and I think we're all more buzzing for him!
“We're obviously all buzzing for it though, we really can't wait we want to put on a show like I said and really take the game by the scruff of the neck.”
Jasper has predominantly played as a wing-back this season getting high up the pitch, and the style his side play as a whole he thinks they can more than match Brighton.
“We don't need to do anything differently for the final, I don't think it matters who we were going to play.
“We trust how we play and obviously know how they will play, and have an insight into what that looks like but we will impose our style as much as they will and the players we've got there's no reason we can't dominate the ball.”
