Chloe Kerr - Rising Star

Rising Star of the Year: Chloe Kerr

The FA and McDonald's Grassroots Football Awards

We are delighted to announce that Chloe Kerr has won our Rising Star of the Year Award as part of The FA and McDonald's Grassroots Football Awards.

The awards aim to recognise and reward volunteers, match officials, clubs and leagues across the county who have made a difference to grassroots football in their local community.

Chloe joined the Sussex Disability Football League (SDFL) as a shy, 13-year-old, player. She played for one of the league’s junior teams and didn't have much confidence at all.

Despite having a learning disability, she has worked hard to build her confidence in order to join in with the rest of her team. As her confidence grew, so did her ability as a goalkeeper.

Chloe decided to take on the challenge of completing her FA Playmaker. With the support of her Dad who is always encouraging Chloe to achieve her goals in football, she completed the course and then began volunteering for the league on match days.

She has been a fantastic help and is now a regular match day volunteer, helping the games to run safely and smoothly.

She built up enough confidence to make her debut for adult football, which was a huge step up for her and has once again taken this in her stride.

Chloe is now on her Introduction to Coaching Football course and will be putting this qualification to use at her club, Worthing FC. With all of Chloe’s hard work and at the age of 17, she is also a young ambassador for the SDFL.

Chloe is a role model to all young people who want to get involved with football. Chloe recently attended a Sussex County FA Careers day where she told other young people all about her experiences.

Chloe takes her volunteering seriously and often refers to it as her job. She is professional, supportive, and welcoming to all new and existing players, all who have a disability.

There is nothing that will stop Chloe from reaching her dream within football and this determination stands out a mile! There is no better role model for young girls with or without a disability, than Chloe.
