We are delighted to announce that Horsham & District Youth Football League (HDYFL) has won our Grassroots League of the Year Award as part of The FA and McDonald's Grassroots Football Awards.

The awards aim to recognise and reward volunteers, match officials, clubs and leagues across the county who have made a difference to grassroots football in their local community.

The Horsham & District Youth Football League is an England Football Accredited League are committed to the development of children’s football in the South East of England

Their aims are to develop the standard of skill, promote self-discipline and physical fitness of its club members and to encourage sportsmanship, respect and fair play at all levels of football.

HDYFL have worked tirelessly to meet the criteria to become a England Football Accredited League and have now achieved accreditation. They offer everybody in grassroots football a high quality, safe, enjoyable experience, that is nationally recognised.

When creating the league development plan, the league officers consider what actions it can take to increase diversity within the league. This is specifically evident in their tactics to increase player participation, develop coaches/ referees and recruit league and club officers.

Upon winning the award, HDYFL chairman, Dave Owen, had this to say: “As a league we are delighted in winning this award. It has been an extraordinary few seasons with the pandemic putting a stop to things for a long while. 

“The committee have worked tirelessly over the last year with every effort made in making sure the Horsham & District Youth Football League would finish the league programme so that we had a basis in structuring this seasons divisions. 

“Many sacrifices were given by the league committee volunteers to achieve this which has given everyone the confidence to return to football again in a safe and proper manner.

“The Award is not just for the league committee members but also for the many clubs, teams, parents and children who have supported the return to football. We know as a league we will be stronger from the learns gained over the last few years. 

“Lastly, we thank Sussex County FA, for being supportive and for granting us the award of Grassroots League of the year.”
