Nutley achieve 'Advanced' pitch quality rating

Fords Green transformed thanks to dedication from grounds team

We’re pleased to congratulate Nutley on receiving an 'Advanced' PitchPower rating on all three of their pitches at Fords Green.

The club have benefitted from enhanced grass pitch maintenance funding through the Grass Pitch Maintenance Fund from the Football Foundation, along with advice provided by the Grounds Management Association (GMA) through the PitchPower app

The hard work and dedication of their volunteers have completely transformed the pitches in the last two years.

Nutley are an England Football Accredited Club with a male first team and two youth teams.

Speaking on the achievement, club secretary Ben Scott, said: "We're very pleased to have achieved a PQS grading of 'Advanced' for our pitches at Nutley.

“These pitches allow our players to enjoy more football and to concentrate on their game. They also help create a positive atmosphere within the club that helps in so many other ways.

“The improvement of our pitches is down to many things: hard work from our volunteers, generous funding from the Football Foundation, fantastic fundraising from our local community and invaluable guidance and support from the Sussex County FA, GMA and the Football Foundation.

“We hope very much to maintain this grading and are committed to doing so in the seasons to come!"

Nutley Grass pitch

Nutley's Fords Green transformed thanks to the remarkable efforts of the grounds team.

The Football Foundation developed the PitchPower web app as a self-assessment tool through which clubs and other organisations are able to receive a quality rating of their pitches and receive tailored maintenance advice.

A PitchPower report is the first step for organisations looking to apply to the Football Foundation for funding through the Grass Pitch Maintenance Fund, which not only provides tapered funding for enhanced works to grass pitches, but also for machinery and storage facilities.

Our Facilities & Investments Officer, Beckie Street, said: “It is fantastic to see the tremendous results that the enhanced pitch maintenance carried out at Nutley has had in a relatively short period of time.

“By using the tools and funds available them, the volunteers have followed the advice of the Grounds Management Associations Regional Pitch Advisor and are rightfully proud of the pitches they use.

“We are hosting a webinar on Monday 26 February 2024, 6:30pm to 8:00pm, on the topic of Grass Pitch Key Spring Maintenance Operations and Best Practice Guidance. Attending this free webinar would be a great start for clubs looking to see a similar result in the future.”
