Worthing 10k HERO

Staff fundraising for disability football

Our staff and board members are raising money in memory of our late chairman

Staff members Lisa Benn, Paul Saunders, Beckie Street and Charlie Thurgood will be running the Worthing 10K in memory of our late chairman, Mathew Major.

Taking place on Sunday 4 June 2023, the runners will start at 9:30am from Marine Parade on a route that will take them along Worthing Seafront, and then back down once again to finish where they began.

Matt passed away last month and was a great supporter of every area of Sussex football, but his passion was disability football where he was instrumental in making us the first County FA with a Disability Representative Squad

The following week, Steve Atkins, one of our directors, and chairman of the Sussex Disability Football League, is embarking on a greater challenge to raise money and awareness for disability football.

In just three days Steve plans to walk 100 miles taking in a number of Sussex football grounds along the way.

Starting at Worthing Town Football Club, Steven will then walk to neighbouring Worthing Football Club before heading north to Crawley Town, onto East Grinstead, south to the home of Seaford Town and then west to the Amex, home of Brighton & Hove Albion.

The plan is for Steve to eventually end up at our Headquarters in Culver Road, Lancing, on Sunday 11 June in time to help set up the pitches for the final day of the Sussex Disability Football League season.

Steve is hoping to raise at total of £12,000, which is the cost of delivering the league’s fixtures each season.

The SDFL ensures the beautiful game is available for everyone to enjoy. It’s supported by clubs from across the county and even one from Surrey.

If anyone would like to support our staff 10K team or Steve’s 100-mile walk, all in aid of the Sussex Disability Football League and in memory of Mathew Major, please add donations to Steve Atkins’ Just Giving page.
