Worthing vs. Broadbridge Heath
Sussex Community Shield in aid of the Sussex Disability Football League
Date: Wednesday 2 August 2023
Kick-off: 7:30pm
Venue: Sussex County FA HQ, Culver Road, Lancing, West Sussex, BN15 9AX

The Sussex Disability Football League was established back in 2009 to offer competitive football at a central venue for both adult and youth teams (male and female). All matches are small-sided and played on our artificial 3G surface here at Culver Road to ensure the league is accessible.

Growing year on year, the league now offers a huge range of opportunities for aspiring players of all ages and abilities through a full pathway of football.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic left the league struggling financially and requiring urgent funding.

More recently, the league also lost one of its strongest supporters in our late Chairman, Mathew Major, who passed away back in April.

In memory of Matt, and to raise as much money for the league as possible, various fundraising efforts have taken place.

The most notable of these efforts was from SDFL League Chairman, and member of our Board of Directors, Steve Atkins, who’s four days of walking across the county has helped raise vital funds to keep the League going for another season.

Ken Benham, Chief Executive of the Sussex County FA, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the Sussex Disability Football League, and continue the fantastic fundraising that’s already taken place.

“With the help of the Sussex football community we can hopefully raise as much as possible at the Sussex Community Shield to ensure they’re able to continue providing a vital space for disability football in the county.”

Tickets for the Sussex Community Shield match will be sold at the turnstiles on the day, with prices ranging from £10 per adult, £5 for concessions and £3 for children under the age of 16. Tickets are also available from the button below. It is a great opportunity for supporters of both teams to not only support their football club but to also help support the Sussex Disability Football League.
