Football v Homophobia 2023

Football v Homophobia Month of Action

February is Football.v.Homophobia Month of Action

We will be supporting the Football.v.Homophobia (FvH) campaign for the thirteenth season by hosting and participating in an exhibition match (self-identifying males/non-binary) against Brighton LGBTQ+ Sports Society (BLAGSS) and a kickabout for self-identifying females.

As part of the day, we will also be hosting an Equality Workshop for our grassroots clubs to make Sussex football an inclusive space.

FvH is an international initiative that exists to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation gender identity and expression at all levels of football.

The campaign aims to unite fans, players, communities, grassroots teams, professional clubs, and the football authorities to ensure the sport continues to work towards being more inclusive.

We want football to take a clear stand against homophobia and transphobia so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful game and so that football leads the way in removing discrimination and prejudice based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

We actively promote ‘Football for All’ and encourage the involvement of the LGBTQ+ community in Sussex football. This encouragement has led to BLAGSS affiliating as a football club with us, enabling them to participate in affiliated football within in the county.

The friendly matches between ourselves and BLAGSS will celebrate their affiliation as well as promote the values of the FvH campaign which has been heavily backed by us since its inception in 2010.

This event is a fundraiser for LGBTQ+ Mental Health charity MindOut.

Their support includes mental health services, GP services, housing and homelessness, welfare rights, LGBTQ+ rights, support for addictions, counselling services, treatments, mental health law, Trans care pathways, community safety, immigration and asylum, relationship issues and many others.
