Rainbow Laces 2022: Inclusion has no off-season
Once again, we are proud to be supporting Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign, and we encourage all our clubs to join us.
This campaign is the second this year from Stonewall, with the first part taking place back in October, with Rainbow Laces Day being held on October 26.
However, for this year the charity has launched a second part, to coincide with the FIFA Men’s World Cup in Qatar.
Over the years more than a million people have laced up to support Stonewalls campaign, and yet many in the LGBTQ+ community still don’t feel welcome in sporting environments.
Since the first Rainbow Laces were issued back in 2013, so much progress has been made, with the first openly gay professional footballer coming out in 30 years.
However, there is still work to do, with over 80% of LGBTQ+ people feeling unwelcome at sporting events.
That’s why the theme of this year’s campaign is ‘Inclusion has no off season’ to ensure that the spotlight remains on these issues, so that the changes needed can take place.
How can you get involved?
We’ve already distributed laces to many of our clubs, so thank you to all of you who expressed an interest in taking part.
If your club would like to get involved, you can purchase Rainbow Laces from Stonewall UK.
And don't forget to use social media to showcase your club during the campaign using the hashtag #RainbowLaces
