Prayer Room

Prayer Room opens at Culver Road

Multifaith prayer room opens at our HQ!

We are delighted to announce that we have opened a multifaith prayer room at our Headquarters, in Culver Road, Lancing.

The multifaith prayer room is a space in the stadium that has been designated for different faiths to use for religious observance. The room provides a quiet space where you can pray, reflect, meditate, or simply sit quietly.

At Culver Road, we understand that we play host to players, spectators, and officials from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and faiths - and we want to make all feel welcome.

Specifically, within the religion of Islam, there are five obligatory Muslim prayers: Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. The Fajr prayer is before sunrise, and the Isha prayer at night-time.

It is the timings of the middle three, Zuhr, Asr and Maghrib, which can create a challenge for Muslim players, fans and officials on a match-day.

Our Inclusion Advisory Group (IAG) sourced donors to sponsor materials and labour for the refurbishment of an existing building within the stadium. With that, we give thanks and appreciation to sponsors Mr Phil Slaughter of Slaughters Flooring, Mr Sean Gibney of Gibney’s Decorators and Mr Jason Hammond of Dial a Hubby.

We hope that the opening of this new facility will ensure all visitors from various faiths and backgrounds feel supported, valued and welcome at our stadium.

Pauline Fox, chair of our IAG, commented: “We are delighted to see the refurbishment of an existing space to a Multi Faith Prayer room was an IAG initiative to further show our commitment to Equality.

"The room provides an appropriate and safe space for contemplation or prayer and is available to all users, visitors and staff at the Culver Road facility."
