Sussex Principal RUR Charity Cup Final
Date: Wednesday 18 March 2020
Kick-off: 7.15pm
Venue: Sussex County FA, Culver Road, Lancing, West Sussex, BN15 9AX

It’s a mouth-watering tie here at Culver Road on Wednesday as Eastbourne Town take on Peavehaven & Telscombe with both sides fighting for promotion in the Southern Combination Premier Division.

Eastbourne Town sit second in the league and despite minor setbacks this season, they still look a very good bet for promotion just behind Lancing.

Town manager, John Lambert, who won the competition in 2015, knows they’re in for a difficult game: “I’m confident, very confident. They’re (Peacehaven & Telscombe) always a difficult side to play against. They’ve always got quite a young side.

“I watched them in the semi-final. I know a lot about them and Mark, their manager, who I know has been at two or three of our games.”

The Tye on the other hand lie fifth in the table but are just four points behind Town and enjoyed a great run in the Sussex Senior Challenge Cup where they took Eastbourne Borough the distance only to lose on penalties at the Semi-Final stage.

Mark Shutt guided The Tye to lift this Cup last season and it’s very high on his agenda to retain it: “It would be absolutely amazing (to retain the cup). It’s one of those things where we just go ‘this is our cup, this is what we want to defend’.

“To get to the final and to be defending it is a great thought you know to win it two years in a row would be absolutely lovely.”

He is, however, very wary of his opposition adding: “It would be absolutely amazing (to retain the cup). It’s one of those things where we just go ‘this is our cup, this is what we want to defend’.

“To get to the final and to be defending it is a great thought you know to win it two years in a row would be absolutely lovely.”

Lambert spoke said the preparation has been “unaffected” by the current situation regarding coronavirus and wants to focus on an important night for the club: “When it comes down to it, it’s a cup final and we want to win it. If we win it scrappily, then fine but you want to win it we don’t want to go there and lose, it’s not a very nice thing to lose finals, no one remembers who comes second.

“Despite the current situation we’re lucky to still be training and playing. The Isthmian League obviously suspended games which we talked about Saturday but we was on but nobody knows what’s going to happen and the preparation stays the same.

“These games don’t come around very often and the players know that and are on board with the standard we’re setting.”

Peacehaven & Telscombe were only able to play their Semi-final match on Thursday beating AFC Uckfield Town 1-0 whilst Eastbourne Town overcame Lancing last month.
Shutt though is optimistic despite “not ideal” disruptions:

“I haven’t had much time to think about it (The Final) as we obviously only got through on Thursday and then went straight into our game on Saturday.

“It’s been a very strange build up because of the coronavirus where we have to actually think whether it’s going to be on. All I can do is plan like it is going to be.

“Disruptions aren’t as I’d of liked them to have been but very much looking forward to it.”

Entry prices for the final were as follows:
£7.00 Adult (17+)
£5.00 Concession (65+ and students with valid student ID card)
£1.00 Child (16 and under)
£1.50 Official Match Day Programme
