Date: Thursday 6 February 2020
Kick-off: 7.15pm
Venue: Sussex County FA, Culver Road, Lancing, West Sussex, BN15 9AX

The two teams in this final both compete in the Sussex Sunday Football League (SSFL) with KSD Support Services currently sitting top of the table with an impressive seven wins from seven.

Physics Atletico lie a little further down the division in seventh place and have already lost to KSD earlier in the season, but KSD manager, Ted Ratcliffe, is expecting a tight affair: “We played Physics Atletico at their place and came away with a 4-1 victory but it certainly wasn’t easy and we know it will be a very competitive final.

“I know their manager Steve and we speak quite regularly so we have agreed that the winners are buying the drinks!”

The Physics were formed in 2008 by a group of college students and joined the Lewes Sunday League. It was in the 2016/17 season, however, when they went on to achieve momentous success.

They joined the SSFL from the Lewes Sunday League and gained back-to-back promotions from Division 3 to the Premier Division and manager, Steve English, sees winning this final as the icing on the cake: “I’m so proud of this team and what we have built over the last three years to go from the bottom division to now competing in the Premier Division and finding ourselves in a County Cup Final.

“We are such a hard-working side and to win the Sussex Sunday Challenge Cup would be amazing. We know it’s going to be a difficult game against one of the best teams in Sussex right now.”

KSD Support Services have, themselves, made huge progress. Since their inception in just 2018, they joined Division 4 of the Sussex Sunday Football League and dropped just two points in their inaugural season.

Their impressive form, which included wins over Premier Division sides in cup competitions, led to them being instated into the Premier Division for this season and it’s fair to say Ted Ratcliffe’s ambitions haven’t dropped: “I am so proud of all of our lads. We set our sights on winning the Sussex Sunday Challenge Cup at the start of the season so I hope we can do it.

“Our run-in for the competition has provided two difficult tests against Kingston Village and AFC 2015 but we are very pleased with the commitment from all the lads.”

The Physics, despite a slow start to the season, have only lost once since October and have enjoyed a lively competition thus far first winning against AFC Aymer 3-1, then going all the way with Castle Sports to win 5-4 on penalties following a 3-3 stalemate at full-time and eventually ending 4-4 in extra-time.

Entry prices for the final are as follows:
£6.00 Adult (17+)
£4.00 Concession (65+ and students with valid student ID card)
FREE Child (16 and under)
£1.50 Official Match Day Programme
