Culver Road passes FIFA inspection

County FA HQ’s 3G pitch passes annual test

We are happy to announce that our County FA HQ pitch at Culver Road has passed its annual FIFA inspection.

FIFA’s guidelines are in place to maintain that all 3G pitches are designed, manufactured and fitted with player safety at the forefront.

The all-weather pitches permit players to play football in its traditional manner, all year round. 3G Pitches are robust and resilient with a lifespan of around 10 years.

Due to the importance of our pitch passing the test, we make sure that our surface receives the upmost care every week.

The nature of the test is to ensure that players are safe at all times and to provide a pitch that is going to replicate natural turf as much as possible when the ball is rolled or bounced. To do this it must be very well maintained to not only make it last longer, but prevent injuries also.

The test phase focuses on:
• Interaction between the player and the surface
• Interaction between the ball and the surface
• Product composition
• Weather resistance
• Service life

Sussex County FA Stadium Manager, Adrian Howell, said: “We’re thrilled that our pitch has successfully passed the FIFA inspection for another year and the results were very good.

“We have a great team of grounds staff that maintain and brush it three or four times a week as well as de-compacting it which gives us a great idea of how it’s doing.

"Without passing this test, leagues wouldn’t even contemplate the idea of playing on the pitch, but we are always confident each year that it will.”
