The Sussex Sport Awards ceremony is one of the most prestigious evenings in the Sussex sporting calendar, and this year returns to The Grand Hotel in Brighton, on Friday 23 November.

The awards recognise the talented sports people, dedicated volunteers and community organisations that put Sussex on the sporting map.

This year’s theme is simply Believe: Achieve, as the awards celebrate those that have dreamt big, and had the passion, determination and belief to achieve those dreams.

Lancing FC has been announced as a finalist due to the excellent work and commitment they dedicate to the grassroots football community.

This includes becoming a Charter Standard club, running 17 separate teams from youth to adult and establishing a new ladies team. The club have become huge in the local community and have provided opportunities for a number of their coaches to continue their education in football, which is passed on to their players who number over 250. In addition, the have also paid for a disabled member of the community to take their Level 1 coaching badge as part of their commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Lancing FC pride themselves on their community fundraising work they carry out and have raised over £1,000 for SASBAH (The Sussex Association for Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus) and CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably). This was part of their ‘You’re Not In This Alone’ campaign which aims to support good mental health, offering free entry to matches for anybody that can benefit from being part of the Lancing football family.

On being shortlisted for this award, Lancing FC Chairman, Steve Taylor said: "I am really pleased that we were nominated for the award, and to be shortlisted is a fantastic feeling. As a club we have achieved a lot on and off the pitch already this season through the hard work of our committee, coaching teams and members."
