Sussex football unites against homophobia
The Sussex County FA highlighted its support for the Football.v.Homophobia (FvH) month of action with an exhibition friendly, sponsored by Premier Sports, against Brighton Lesbian and Gay Sports Society (BLAGSS) on Sunday evening.
FvH is a campaign uniting fans, players, communities, grassroots teams, professional clubs and the football authorities in opposing homophobia and prejudice against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in football.
A Sussex County FA squad made up of staff, county members and sponsors took on the BLAGSS team in the male only match, with the female equivalent scheduled to take place in the future.
BLAGSS is a sports and social group that now has around four hundred lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender members from across Brighton and Hove, Sussex and beyond.
The match itself was a competitive encounter played in the true spirit of the occasion. In the end, BLAGSS prevailed as 3-0 victors - but the real winner on the night was football and the FvH campaign!
Video coverage of the match was broadcast on Facebook Live and a selection of photographs from the match, courtesy of Simon Roe Photography, can be found on Facebook.
