Kick-off: 7:45pm
Venue: American Express Community Stadium, Brighton & Hove Albion FC

Wednesday evening sees a repeat of last season’s Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup Final where the two professional clubs of Sussex, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crawley Town meet at the Amex Stadium both with the eyes on the prize.

Simon Rusk, who took charge of the under-23s three seasons ago, is relishing the prospect of clinching the prestigious cup for the second consecutive year: “At the start of the season, we always sit down and set our out targets for the year, and one of those targets is to get to the final of the Sussex Senior Cup.”

Brighton’s route to the final consisted of his under-23s stepping out of their comfort zone by coming up against the physicality of County League players, and Rusk insists that being part of this cup is key to his players development: “I’ve been really pleased with the players’ efforts - you have to be adaptable to get to the final of this competition, as there’s various types of games you have to play.”

The Seagulls are having an outstanding campaign and not only have they been on a fantastic unbeaten run of sixteen games, but they have earnt themselves a place in the Premier League 2 – Division 2 play-off final against Aston Villa after securing a 3-0 win against Middlesbrough.

Rusk said: “One of our objectives at the start of the season was to get as close as we could to winning promotion, running alongside individual development of the players - which is our main priority.

“I want to win games of football; I’m just like anyone else in football. The priority of our job is to develop, but we want to perform well and win matches.”

The Seagulls boss knows that Crawley will be looking to make amends from last year’s cup defeat: “I’m expecting a very competitive match. I’ve seen them a few times this season and Harry Kewell has done a very good job there.

“They’ve got a way of playing that they want to impose on their opponent. I can’t guess what team Harry will put out, but what I do know is that whatever team is on the pitch, it will be a stern test for us.”
