The final of the Sussex W J Jewell Trophy (under-12s) is due to take place on Sunday 4 March 2018 between AS Eastbourne and Patcham United.

This season’s Sussex W J Jewell Trophy Final consists of two highly talented sides both hoping to top off their season by lifting the trophy on Sunday. 

AS Eastbourne play in the Mid Sussex Youth and Minor League - Division 1 and currently sit second having reached this stage of the season unbeaten. 

As a club, they have won numerous league titles and cups, but for the under-12s to win their first County Cup competition is a dream for the club. 

Manager Anthony Storey, who took charge of the team five seasons ago said: “It’s an amazing opportunity for the boys to try and prove that they are one of the best teams in the county.”

The under-12s have progressed as a team from the age of five and Storey is really proud of what his squad have achieved together and believes that his boys can go all the way.

“We have an outstanding group of players, the majority of the boys have been with us since the age of five and so I am expecting some good team play. 

“Our hard work is finally starting to pay off and we will be bringing lots of support on Sunday to help encourage the team.”

AS Eastbourne and Patcham United have never met before so Storey sees this as an exciting challenge to test them and play against a side they are not so familiar with. 

“On the day different individuals can shine, but most weekends there is a good team ethic and performance,” he added. 

Opponents Patcham United also sit second in their league, the Sussex Sunday Youth League West - Division 1 with high hopes of winning the double. 

Patcham’s manager, Phil Knight said they pride themselves on being a little community club and is certainly very proud of his side for reaching the Sussex W J Jewell Trophy Final. 

“It’s little old Patcham, it’s great for us to get to a County Cup Final and we see it as a real achievement.”

Phil Knight has been the manager since they formed six years ago, and like AS Eastbourne, the team have progressed through the age categories together with ten out of thirteen of the original squad. 

In his playing days as a child, Knight reached cup finals and is now excited by the prospect of guiding his team, which includes his son to victory. 

Knight believes that his team were landed with a challenging draw but is very proud of his side for pulling through to book their place in their first competitive cup they have entered. 

“The draw wasn’t kind to us at the start; our first game against Worthing was tough but we managed to get the better of them in extra-time and that set us on our way.”

With both sides’ cup run results consisting of high score lines, Sunday morning at Culver Road is looking to be a goals-galore contest!
