Children playing football in Brighton & Hove Albion kit - Sussex to Africa

Unwanted Football Boots Appeal

Donate your old football boots so that youngsters and adults in Africa can benefit from them

Sussex County FA are appealing for footballers in the Sussex area to donate their old football boots (or astro-turfs) for a good cause to bring joy to youngsters and adults in Africa.

With the 2018/19 season fast approaching, purchasing a new pair of football boots is likely to be a top priority for players and referees. That’s if they have not been purchased already, and so it is the perfect time to drop off any old or unwanted boots that children and adults in Africa can use to play in.

Due to the high cost of football boots many boys and girls resort to playing the game without footwear on poor surfaces. This is resulting in children and adults being demotivated to continue playing football with the risk of getting injured and therefore is having a negative impact on football participation levels in areas of Africa.

Sussex to Africa is a non-profit organisation that aims to bring hope and happiness to communities in Africa through well-coordinated sports programmes. Football in general can be used to bring social change to poor communities, who themselves lack the resources and sports kit to play the sport. A main objective is to send sports kit and resources to improve life skills and sports development all over the African continent.

In order to play in competitive leagues in Africa players are required to wear suitable footwear, so football boots are highly sought after. In addition to football boots, many other items of football kit and equipment can be donated: shirts, shorts, socks, tracksuits, trainers, goalkeeper gloves, shin pads and footballs.

All donations should be clean and kept together in a plastic bag, bin bag or box.

Donations of both adult and children's kit and equipment are welcome.

How to donate? (Clubs are encouraged to collate donations from players etc.)
• Drop off at the Sussex County FA Headquarters in Lancing
• Contact the Sussex County FA who can arrange for the items to be collected

All donations will be sorted through at Sussex to Africa’s base in Pulborough, before being shipped over to Africa to support the work carried out by various organisations.
