The Sussex RA-FA Youth Council ran their first youth football tournament consisting of 26 teams ranging from under-11s to under-14s.
The tournament took place in June on the 3G pitch at the Sussex County FA and with months of planning by council members and funding from the National RA-FA Youth Council and Sussex County RA, the day was a success.
The morning consisted of under-11s and under-12s fixtures which included all teams playing in a fantastic spirit.
Crawley Down Gatwick won the under-11s tournament, with Select Youth being worth runners up. In the under-12s category, Worthing United beat Hollingbury Hawks to become the champions of the under-12s competition.
The under-13s and under-14s were in action in the afternoon which also consisted of some very competitive and exciting matches. Ifield Galaxy narrowly beat Rottingdean Village Youth in the under-13s final, whilst Chesworth Rovers were triumphant in the under-14s final against Ringmer Rovers White.
The tournament was also committed to referee development, with the Sussex RA-FA Youth Council asking local referee associations to nominate match officials who have attended and contributed at their meetings.
Referee coaches were also nominated by the local RA’s to offer the referee advice and support throughout the day. Development and support was given post-matches as well as a laws of the game training session and a reflection on all of their games.
Alex Bradley, Sussex RA-FA Youth Council Chairman said: “All of us at the Sussex RA-FA Youth Council would like to thank the players and the teams for providing such an entertaining tournament.
“Thank you also to all the volunteers who contributed in the running of the event, as well as the sponsors; Olliewood Carpentry, 1-2-1 Football and Simon Roe Photography.”
