The first Semi-Final of the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup is due to take place on Tuesday 6 March 2018 between Saltdean United and Crawley Town.

Crawley Town reached the final of the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup last May where, despite a tight encounter, they lost out to Brighton & Hove Albion in extra-time.

This time around, Crawley will be looking to make amends and get their name engraved on the prestigious trophy.

Harry Kewell, the ex-Leeds United and Liverpool player, took over as head coach of the club just a few weeks after that cup final defeat, and he holds ambitions to get the club there again, he said: “We would love to get back in the final again this season and hopefully lift the trophy for our supporters.”

Kewell made a few changes in personnel over the summer which has resulted in a fine run in the league recently: “I said at the outset that it would take time for the squad to understand fully how I want them to play.

“It slowly came together and in the last three months or so, their hard work has been rewarded”, he said.

Kewell will be using the Semi-Final tie as an opportunity to field players who may not get a regular outing in their league matches. “That has always been our way looking at the competition; it gives players who aren’t getting many minutes in the league some important minutes - they need to be ready to play between now and the end of the season, so these games are crucial,” he said. 

The Reds head coach will not be taking Saltdean United for granted and is expecting a competitive encounter on Tuesday evening: “Every game has been extremely tough, all our opposition have been extremely competitive, and we expected Saltdean will be no different.”
