We are delighted to announce a brand-new County Cup competition for 2024, the Sussex Matt Major Disability Cup.

The Sussex Matt Major Disability Cup is open to pan-disability teams who affiliate with us, or compete in the Adult Premiership (Mixed) and Adult Championship (Mixed) divisions of the Sussex Disability Football League.

Eight teams will be able to enter the competition, and eligible teams will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Entries will close as soon as eight teams have been accepted, or at 2pm on Thursday 28 March 2024, whichever comes first.

The competition will comprise of a round-robin tournament on Sunday 14 April 2024 at Worthing Town FC’s Palatine Park Football Centre, with two groups of four teams each playing three matches. The winners from each group will then compete in the final on Sunday 12 May 2024 at our headquarters in Culver Road, Lancing.

For the first season, the competition will be free for teams to enter - guidance notes on how to enter.

Speaking as entries opened, Steve Atkins, Chair of our Inclusion Advisory Group (IAG), said: “This announcement is extremely exciting, it heralds parity for pan-disability football, and marks the legacy of a true football person in our former Chair, Matt Major.

“More important, is that it is a step towards proving that our great game is For All, and that it should carry the same significance for everyone across Sussex football, no matter how, or where, they are involved.

“I cannot wait for the competition to start, and I am really looking forward to the final at Culver Road, where we will see pan-disability football celebrated with the pomp and ceremony it deserves.

“The real beauty though, is that the final will become just another football match in the County Cup calendar.”
