County Cup competitions concluded

Update on 2020/21 County Cups

All of our County Cup competitions from the 2020/21 season are to be concluded with immediate effect.

Despite the UK Government's recent update regarding the COVID-19 roadmap for easing restrictions, this very difficult decision has been taken to help support leagues and clubs collectively for the safe return of grassroots football for both adults and children.

This decision has been made following a period of careful consideration with numerous contributing factors involved. Whilst not extensive, some of the factors that were considered include:

Under half (47.6%) of County Cup fixtures had taken place, with some individual teams yet to begin in their County Cup competition
Limitations on pitch availability for the remainder of the extended 2020/21 season
County-wide competitions could lead to extensive travel to other areas to play fixtures

Whilst we understand this will come as disappointing news to competing clubs, as a gesture of goodwill, any team who was still one of our County Cup competitions will be offered free entry to the 2021/22 season’s competition.

Explaining the tough decision Paul Jeffery, Operations Managers said: “We’d like to place on record our thanks to teams for their patience whilst we considered our options before coming to this decision.

“We know this will not be the news some had hoped for. But, having reviewed the current situation of all our competitions, and the various leagues across the county, we were unfortunately left with very little option but to conclude all of our cups.”
