U18s Trophy Lift

Under-18s presented County Youth Cup Trophy

Shared with Norfolk, Under-18s Rep Squad receive FA County Youth Cup and medals

Our Under-18s Representative Squad finally got their hands on The FA County Youth Cup Trophy after sharing the spoils with Norfolk.

Manager Jay Lovett said it was with “great disappointment” that they were unable to play the final but shared his delight at how his side performed over the course of the season.

After a 100% record in the league campaign, we began our pursuit of the cup with a 1-0 away win at Bedfordshire FA before a convincing 8-1 victory at home to Durham in the quarter-final.

You have to go back to 1952 for the last time Sussex won the County Youth Cup and we came face to face away to a strong Devon side in the semi-final.

In torrid conditions, Sussex prevailed with an Olly Munt goal enough to see Jay Lovett’s side setup a juicy final against Norfolk at The Den, Millwall.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 outbreak prevented the tie from taking place with our Chairman, Mathew Major, saying, "we did everything in our power to get the tie played”, but it wasn’t to be.

Sussex and Norfolk were deservedly granted joint winners of the competition and it has been amazing to see how well some of the squad have progressed since, with the vast majority playing senior football.

COVID-19 has prevented us from being able to bring Representative Football back to the county thus far, but Jay Lovett hopes to return as manager once that day hopefully comes.

Representative Football has thrived in Sussex, whether that be Under-18s, Under-16s, Women’s or Disability and we’re sure that will one day continue.
