Durrington High Under-15s Girls Football Team

Cardinal Newman and Durrington High to represent Sussex!

Sussex schools to take part in the 2018-19 FA Youth Futsal Cup

Cardinal Newman and Durrington High School girls’ football teams will be representing Sussex in the FA Youth Futsal Cup 2018-19 on Wednesday 20 March.

Now in its seventh year, the competition was set up to promote Futsal, offer an opportunity to try Futsal in a competitive environment and also to provide a route into The FA Youth National Futsal Cup.

These aims have not changed and as the seasons go by it is been great to see more and more teams be involved in this competition.

For those not familiar with the format, Futsal is a five-a-side game, normally played on a flat indoor pitch with hockey sized goals and a ball with a reduced bounce. Futsal by its nature places a large emphasis on technical ability in situations of high pressure, and proves an excellent tool for players to develop their technique.

Cardinal Newman Under-13 girls team were winners of the county rounds that involved 16 Sussex schools and they convincingly won a three-way play-off with Sackville and Warden Park. 11 Sussex schools contested in the Under-15’s competition and Durrington overcame Seaford Head to reach the Regional Finals.

The finals will be held at Alexander Sports Centre, Sidney Road, Bedford, MK40 2BQ and the winners will go through to the National Finals later this year which takes place St Georges Park.

We wish them the best of luck!
