Lewes FC Women celebrating together

Lewes FC Women welcome Arsenal Women to The Dripping Pan

History to be made in East Sussex

Lewes FC Women will make history on Sunday 16 September 2018 when the team plays Arsenal Women at The Dripping Pan in Lewes for the first time.

Neither the women’s team nor the men’s team has ever played the London side in a competitive fixture before.

Lewes FC Women have recently been promoted to the Championship - the second highest tier of women’s football in England and have been drawn to face Women’s Super League side Arsenal Women in the Continental Tyres League Cup, which kicks off at 2.00pm.

Lewes FC made headline news last summer when it became the first club in the world to pay its male and female semi-professional teams equal pay as part of the club’s Equality FC Campaign.

Director Charlie Dobres said: “This is going to be a hugely exciting game as no Lewes team has ever played Arsenal before in a competitive fixture and we are really looking forward to it.

“The women are training at least three times a week now and our side has never been fitter. And it’s not just our women who are pushing forward as our men are also doing really well as shown by Wednesday’s spectacular 8-1 FA Cup win.

“As both teams are really on the up, we hope the people of Lewes and the surrounding area will come down and support us when we make history on the 16th of September.”

This is the first in a trio of September home matches for Lewes FC Women. On Wednesday 19 September they face Crystal Palace (kick-off 7.45pm) and on Sunday 23 September they play Leicester City (kick-off 2.00pm) which are both league fixtures.

Tickets to women’s matches cost £8.00 at the gate but can be bought in advance online for just £7.00. Concessions cost £4.00 (or £3.50 online) and children under-16 go free. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Lewes FC Women's ticketing page.

The Lewes FC Women’s match against Arsenal promises to be an exciting occasion as local Lewes band Skulldrummery will drum both teams onto the pitch and play some rousing half-time tunes.

Spectators will have the option to have a glass of Prosecco or Harvey’s beer at the club’s newly refurbished Rook Inn. Gourmet burgers, baked potatoes, speciality teas and soft drinks will also be available to indulge in from the two on-site food outlets.
