Mariema Diouf Offside

Offside comes to Sussex

A heartfelt, energetic and uplifting play about Women's football

Inspired by real stories from the past and present, Offside is a heartfelt, energetic and uplifting play about women’s football, that also explores wider themes of inequality, self-belief and empowerment with humour and intelligence.

Four women from across the centuries live, breathe, and play football - Emma Clarke, the first black professional female footballer in Liverpool 1892; Lily Parr, of Dick Kerr Ladies, playing in 1921 when the FA ban prevented women from using FA pitches; and fictional characters Mickey and Keeley, representing the contemporary game.

Whilst each of them face very different obstacles, the possibility that the beautiful game will change their futures - and the world - is tantalisingly close.

Offside is told through lyrical dialogue, poetry, and punchy prose, placing the audience on the touchline of the game of a lifetime.
