Worthing girl to be Womens FA Cup Mascot

Goring C of E Primary School pupil, Daisy Cutting's dreams came true after being named as a mascot for the SSE Women's FA Cup Final at Wembley.

Friday morning Goring C of E Primary School received a visit from Brighton and Hove Albion Women’s players Laura Rafferty and Ini Umotong. The visit consisted of the pupils taking part in a fun football session and an inspiring assembly where they asked the players questions about life as footballers.

The morning was made even more special for one Year 3 school girl in particular; Daisy Cutting who received the news that she has been selected as a mascot for the SSE Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley on Saturday 5 May.

On receiving the news Daisy said: “When I heard I was going as a mascot I was really excited and all my classmates crowded round me – I think they might be a bit jealous!

“I’m really excited to see Wembley- it’s such a big stadium.

“I like football because it’s really fun and you can play in different positions.

“It was great to have players from famous football teams come to my school. It’s cool and really weird because I’ve never seen them face to face before.”

Central defender Rafferty was pleased to have the honour of sharing the news with Daisy and her class and felt that it brought back memories of her own as a mascot when she was a girl.

“To see her face light up when I gave her the news was amazing- I’ve been in that position myself when I was younger.

“To see that love the girl shows for the game is really impressive and for us now we want to take her there to cheer her local club on.

“Coming down to schools like this really puts it into perspective about what we can do for these young people.

“It’s really exciting and I wish her all the best – she’s a very lucky girl!” She said.

P.E. coordinator Rupert Ireland believes that the visit will live in the memory and will be a positive for girls’ football going forward in the school.

“They’ve been so excited and as soon as they walked in and saw the cup, their eyes lit up," he said. "I think dreams were been made at that moment.

“The opportunity for the kids to play with Laura and Ini was so special too – they have had the best day.”
