Date: Sunday 15 April 2018
Kick-off: 2.30pm
Venue: Sussex County FA, Culver Road, Lancing, West Sussex, BN15 9AX

Sunday afternoon sees two teams from opposite ends of the county meet with the hope of adding to their successful seasons thus far by lifting the Sussex C P Mason Cup. Both sides have scored an astonishing forty-nine goals between them in the road to the final and therefore Sunday is promising to be an entertaining encounter.

The Hastings United side who previously played under Select Youth moved across at the beginning of the 2017 season after Chris Agutter, the manager of the first team offered the under-12s, under-14s and under-15s to join the club with the vision of building the youth section at The Pilot Field.

Since relocating from Select Youth, the team have competed in the Kent Youth League and their manager Adam Hurley believes that the title is in their hands: “We were in the Sussex Sunday Youth Football League but when we moved to Hastings we decided to try and develop our players further by playing against different sides in a more competitive and physical league.”

The core of the Hastings United team have been playing together since the age of five and Sunday has the potential to mark the team’s biggest achievement: “This is the first time we have got a place in a cup final and I think it just highlights the team’s achievements this season.

“We are really excited; we are just going to play our game. We don’t know how Sunday is going to go and that is what is exciting,” Hurley added.

Hurley, who has been managing the team since under-8s is excited by the prospect of playing at the County FA and is hoping for a good turnout of fans: “We are really looking forward to it and we are hoping that lots of family and friends come down to support us.

“Since moving across, the support from the first team has been massive and we are pleased that we are able to put the club name out.”

Due to the Easter holidays Hurley will be missing five players and admits that he is lucky as he has a large squad full of depth and capability.

Bognor Regis Town compete in the Arun & Chichester Youth Football League and like their opposition have their eyes on the title.

Chris Hall took charge of the side six years ago and like many coaches within youth football got involved due to his son Benji playing for the team.

Sunday afternoon, Hall will be hoping to maintain their ongoing impressive record which currently consists of one defeat in twenty six games: “It’s massive; the club has not been involved in a County Cup Final for quite some time now.

“It’s great for the publicity of our youth section and with the first team struggling at the moment, it’s a bit of good news for the club really,” Hall said.

Hall claims that the clubs philosophy is the reasoning behind the team’s achievements and said: “At the club we work on a team ethic and that’s to play as a team and not as individuals.

“We make sure that our players support each other on and off the pitch because that is important when you are in a team.”

The Bognor gaffer has the luxury of having all of his players available and is delighted that his team is getting recognition after what he feels has been a successful eighteen months.

“We have had a positive season and a half, we are sitting second with three games in hand and next week we are playing against Rustington Otters in another Cup Final.

“We are really looking forward to it and just want to enjoy the occasion really,” Hall said.

Entry prices for the final are as follows:

£3.00 Adult (17+)
£2.00 Concession (65+ and students with valid student ID card)
