Girls’ Football Festival set to return

    •

Brighton & Hove Albion will host The FA’s highly successful Girls’ Football Festival in association with Continental Tyres at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre, on Thursday 22nd June 2017.

The event is organised with the support of the Sussex County FA and the club, with the free programme aimed at encouraging girls to participate in football.

It is open to young girls in Years 3-6 from primary schools, within the county. Schools are invited to contact Clare Nichols, at Clare.Nichols@SussexFA.com to register.

Participants will have the chance to play with some of the stars of women’s football, as players from The FA Women's Super League will be there to meet, chat and have a kick-about with the girls.

In addition, Charlotte Lade, one of the world’s leading professional football freestylers, will be demonstrating her amazing football tricks and skills.

In 2016, the FA Girls’ Football Festivals, in association with Continental Tyres, has gone from strength to strength, attracting over 8,000 girls across 17 events.

Now a much-anticipated fixture in the annual calendar for the women’s and girls' game, the 2017 festivals will once again visit over 17 locations around the country between June and November.

The programme is a joint initiative by The FA and Continental Tyres. It provides girls aged five to sixteen with an exciting, interactive football experience for both those new to the game and regular players.

The format of the festival combines football, lifestyle and music. Each festival is led by FA approved coaches and will include sessions from The FA Skills team, which consists of skills and drills, interactive games, mini matches and the ContiWarmUp Programme - the newest endorsed coaching programme by The FA.

A range of innovative equipment including an inflatable pitch, speed cage, target shoot, quick feet and batak boards will feature at each event.

To add to the festival atmosphere, there will be giveaways, as well as hair braiding and face painting. The FA WSL mascot Berry the Bear will also be in attendance alongside Gully and Sally from the club.

Kelly Simmons, director of the national game and women’s football, said: "We are incredibly proud of the achievements of the FA Girls’ Football Festivals in association with Continental Tyres over the last five years.

"Our festivals have clearly shown the enthusiasm there is across the country from young girls when they are offered the opportunity to participate in sport in general and football in particular."

Guy Frobisher, marketing director at Continental Tyres, added: "The festivals have grown year on year and have given tens of thousands of girls the chance to get involved. The day will be a fantastic showcase of women and girls football which we are really proud to continue to support."

Kirsty Hulland, general manager of women’s and girls’ football at Brighton & Hove Albion said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Sussex County FA to host the FA Girls’ Football Festival. It forms part of our commitment to supporting and generating awareness and interest in girls and women’s football in the region; creating enthusiasm for young players, as well as fans who will have the opportunity to interact with our women’s players at the event.”

Ken Benham, chief executive for the Sussex County FA added, “This is a fantastic opportunity for schools to bring girls together from across Sussex to experience a range of football activities. We last hosted a festival in 2015 and received such positive feedback that we were delighted to be offered the opportunity to host another event.”

To ensure the day is a huge success the Sussex County FA are looking to employee a number of Level 1 coaches to help the day run as smoothly as possible.

There are also a number of volunteer opportunities to get involved in, and should you be interested in helping out on the day, please email Sussex County FA’s Football Development Officer, Clare Nichols, via: Clare.Nichols@SussexFA.com.
