TEAM SIXTEEN Launch Event at Shoreham Academy

TEAM SIXTEEN Launched in Shoreham

Students from Shoreham Academy led and took part in the Sussex County FA’s first TEAM SIXTEEN Launch Event, which promotes student led activity...

TEAM SIXTEEN is a new and exciting programme which encourages secondary schools to form Student Management Teams to help facilitate small-sided intramural football leagues on school facilities.

The Launch Event was led by eight students from Shoreham Academy who formed the Student Management Team, they were aided on the day with support from members of The FA and Sussex County FA .

A large number of girls and boys took part in the separate Launch Events, showing off their skills, creativity and crazy goal celebrations! The event was attended by former Brighton & Hove Albion and Crawley Town goalkeeper Michel Kuipers, who worked with the students throughout the day answering questions and helping to promote football activity within the school.

Steve Swallow, Education Project Officer at The FA said, “TEAM SIXTEEN is designed to give students the opportunity to play regular football in a format that suits them. That is exactly what Shoreham Academy has created. They have an excellent leadership programme which supports TEAM SIXTEEN, meaning the programme is delivered by students, for students.”

Sussex County FA College & Community Coordinator, Michael Ryan will be working closely with Shoreham Academy in the future to provide a sustainable TEAM SIXTEEN League for the rest of the academic year. Michael said of the Launch Event, “It was great to see such a large number of students with various amounts of playing experiences taking part in the event and most importantly having fun. TEAM SIXTEEN is a flexible project that students can take hold of and mould to best fit their own school environment. I would certainly recommend to all schools in Sussex to consider enquiring about TEAM SIXTEEN and the benefits it can have on the whole school community!”

Photographs from the event can be found on the Sussex County FA Facebook page.
