On Wednesday 14th July 2010 eleven teams (4 players per team) competed in the inaugural SCFA Charity Golf Day staged at West Hove Golf Club.
Despite the weather being dry and warm a tricky “wind” was in evidence which affected many of the players at sometime during their round. The course was in good condition considering the recent weather, and some good golf was played. The winners of the overall team event were a team representing Worthing Golf Club with a score of 116 points (3 players scoring each hole on ¾ stableford handicap system) and received the trophy and mementos sponsored by Gordon House Promotions from Kevin Tharme – SCFA County Development Manager.
As well as the team event we had prizes on offer which were claimed by the following players: Nearest the Pin (Sponsored by Luke & Luke Construction Ltd) – Rob Slaughter (Henfield FC), Longest Drive (Sponsored by Gould & Co) – Adrian Jenkins (Horam Park Golf Club) and Nearest the Pin in 3 (Sponsored by Gardner & Scardifield) – Matthew Le Tissier (The FA).
The above awards were presented at the post event meal which included an “impromptu” Q&A session with our special guest of the day – Matthew Le Tissier, and our special thanks go to MLT for this as he had little on no warning.
The purpose of the event was to support one of our partner charities and the recipients from this event were the NSPCC. We were delighted that Russell Squire – NSPCC Community Fund Raising Manager for Sussex, was very pleased when we informed him we had raised approx £500 for the Charity (exact amount to follow).
Our thanks go to all the participants for “digging deep” on the day for the Full Stop badge donation and for the raffle, to our sponsors of the raffle prizes – Brighton & Hove Albion FC, Sussex CCC, Fontwell Park Racecourse, Ken Benham and the NSPCC, to the members of SCFA staff and Council members for their help on the day and lastly to West Hove Golf Club for their kind hospitality and looking after so well on the day.
We intend to make a Golf Day an annual event and hope that next year will see even more teams participate.
