A few words from Catherine
I have recently taken up the appointment as County Welfare Officer for Sussex County FA.
I am very pleased to be working in local football after working at The FA headquarters for four years.
My previous involvement in football was working for the Case Management department for The FA. My role was to consider whether individuals posed a risk of harm to children and representing football in the multi-agency work of child protection.
I am currently training to be a Safeguarding tutor with the Sussex County FA and aim to deliver training as soon as practical.
I am keen raise standards and address concerns in all areas relating to the welfare of children or vulnerable adults within Sussex football. The remit of my role is quite wide and I am sure it will keep developing. I look forward to getting on with the job and working with you.
Should you need to contact me on any matter, I would be pleased to hear from you: catherine.larner@sussexfa.com or 01903 753547

The FA believes football can have a powerful positive influence on children.
But that means everyone involved in football must take on the responsibility of looking after those children that want to be involved in the game. Goal is about doing things the right way, doing things properly. It's about allowing children to enjoy the game without experiencing poor practice or abuse of any kind. Abuse means bullying, physical, emotional or sexual abuse and neglect.
The FA's initiatives weren't launched as a response to some massive problem in the game. They weren't developed to deter the hundreds of thousands of mums, dads, teachers and helpers who make football happen for young people. They are, however, there to make sure children can enjoy their football in safety and provide some guidance for everyone involved.
The FA provides training and learning in child protection and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks through The FA CRB Unit.
The FA takes seriously its role as the guardian of the game at all levels in this country and is committed to using the power of football to build a better future.
That's why The FA developed its child protection policy and Helpline.
Children love playing football. And that's the same however well England are doing, however well our club sides are doing and however well the school team or Sunday morning side is doing on the local park.
That's why Goal is here.
Making sure child protection in football is taken seriously.
