Use of Ground for Matches

In view of problems which have arisen in the past with connection to Charity football matches, this is to notify Clubs of the requirements of The Football Association and the Sussex County FA in the event of the Club allowing its ground to be used by an outside organisation for a match or competition.

For any form of competition, both 11-a-side and small side played on one day or over a short period, it is compulsory for it to be sanctioned by either The Football Association or the Sussex County FA as required by our Regulations for the Sanction and Control of Competitions. In respect of a Charity Competition, a balance sheet must be forwarded to the appropriate sanctioning Association.

With reference to a match, there is no problem if it is played between two Clubs, which are currently affiliated with a County Association. If one or neither team is affiliated it is essential for permission to be given for a scratch team or teams to take part. The Football Association will give this permission for all Full Member clubs and by the Sussex County FA in respect of all other clubs. If a charity is involved then it is necessary for a balance sheet to be submitted to the Association giving approval.

If a scratch team in a friendly, charity or benefit match is to include any player who is currently registered under a written contract then it is necessary for the contract Club to confirm in writing that the player can take part in the match, with a copy being forwarded to The Football Association. For any players from abroad (including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) the written permission of their National Association is required.

At all times, the Competition or match must be played in accordance with the Laws of the Game as well as the Rules and Regulations of The Football Association and mixed football cannot be permitted. In addition, registered match officials must be used.

Under Related Links (on the right) you will find the relevant forms for affiliating a Tournament/Competition.

If your club are holding a Charity or Friendly match you will need to forward the date of the match the two teams participating and where the match is to be played to brian.shacklock@sussexfa.com.
