FORTHCOMING FIXTURES

Having played for many seasons in the South & West Counties Competition, the Senior team has now transferred to the Southern Cup Competition and will compete against the AFA, Army, London and Middlesex. The decision to move competitions came as a result of the withdrawal of both the Dorset and Guernsey FA’s, and the intention of the Army to follow suit if that situation arose.

The Southern Cup Competition fixtures will all be played midweek, and as a result this will not interfere with the Saturday fixtures of the Sussex County League Clubs, from which the players are drawn.

This season will also see a change of Manager for the Senior Team, as John Suter has stepped down. The competition rules allow players to be chosen from clubs playing up to Level Five, and as John’s association with Horsham YMCA was above this level, he realised that he may have a problem with the selection of players, as he was unable to find the time to attend Sussex County League games. The Sussex County FA appreciates the decision made by John, and also the time and effort that he and his backroom team gave during their time at the helm. The Representative Match Committee set up a sub-committee, to deal with the appointment of a successor, and Sammy Donnelly has now been appointed.

There are also changes for the Ladies and Youth representative teams, although not as significant. The competition that the Ladies and Youth teams played in last season has changed its name, and is now known as the South East Counties Youth and Ladies Championship. This season the womens representative teams will be jointly managed by Jacqui Agnew and Tammy Waine and, yet again, Russell Rego will look after the Youth teams.

In the Ladies competition the London FA has decided to withdraw, and both Hampshire and Oxfordshire have applied to join, which was agreed at the AGM. As a result, each team will now have an extra fixture to play.

With the introduction of the Army at U18 level, which was also agreed at the AGM, the competition format has been changed. Teams will now be placed into two groups of four, and will play each other on a home and away basis within the group. Our group contains the Army, London and Middlesex and the winners of each group will then meet in a Final at the end of the season.

At U16 level there are no changes, and the competition will continue to be played on a League basis.

There will be no changes to the disability representative team, who will be managed by Teresa Sanders and Matt Forsdyke.  They will be playing in the Under 17 Regional League and their opponents will be Berks & Bucks North, Berks & Bucks South, Kent, Surrey, Oxfordshire and Hampshire.

Due to building works taking place at the SCFA County Ground at Culver Road this season, the pitch will be unavailable and it is therefore our intention to play our home fixtures at County League grounds around Sussex. Clubs will be approached in the near future, and once they have confirmed their availability, details of the venues will be shown on the SCFA website.
