FUNDING

At the moment funding is hard to come by to help projects along be they facility development, pitch drainage, building renovations to starting up new activity/teams.

This section of our website is aimed at guiding you towards organisations that provide grants that might make the difference between a project being completed or not.

A hard copy for information can be downloaded by clicking on Funding Guidance (under Related Documents).

There are several organisations and we have listed some main links below:

LOCAL AUTHORITIES

If you are looking for funding it is always worth looking closer to home first, Local Authorities often have their own grants and bursaries available to Organisations & Individuals who live in the local authority area.

SPORT ENGLAND

Funding

Sport England is committed to the creation of a world-leading community sport environment. This means focusing their investment on organisations and projects that will grow and sustain participation in grassroots sport and create opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport.

In addition to their investment in key partners to deliver specific objectives, they are launching funding programmes open to a wide range of organisations. These include sports clubs, voluntary or community organisations, local authorities, schools, colleges and universities.

The funding programmes that are currently open are:
• Small Grants
• Sportsmatch
• Iconic Facilities Fund
• Protecting Playing Fields

Small Grant Scheme

You can apply for any sum from £300 to £10,000 but the total project cost cannot exceed £50,000

The Sport England Small Grants Programme uses lottery funding to make awards of between £300 and £10,000 to not-for-profit organisations to deliver new community projects to either grow or sustain participation in sport or to support talent development.

Sportsmatch

Sportsmatch is continuing to accept new applications for funding, however they still suggest that you submit your application as soon as possible as Sportsmatch is an exchequer funded programme and any award would need to be spent by 31 March 2012.

Inspired Facilities

Inspired Facilities is focused on making it easier for local community and volunteer groups to improve and refurbish sports clubs or transform non-sporting venues into modern grassroots sport facilities.

Part of Places People Play, Sport England’s programme to deliver a London 2012 legacy of increased mass participation in sport, Inspired Facilities is investing £50 million of National Lottery funding in up to 1000 community sports projects between 2011 and 2014.

Protecting Playing Fields

Sport England’s funding programme, Protecting Playing Fields (PPF) is part of their Places People Play Olympic legacy mass participation programme and is investing £10 million of National Lottery funding in community sports projects over three years from 2011-2014.

The programme is being delivered via five funding rounds with up to £2 million being awarded to projects in each round.

Confirmed dates for the first two rounds are:
• Round 1 closed on 6 July 2011
• Round 2 opened on the 24 October 2011 and closes at 5pm on 12 December 2011

Iconic Facilities

World-leading facilities are not simply the most attractive in terms of design, nor the most advanced in terms of equipment - they are sustainable in their operations and focused on their users.

Sport England's Iconic Facilities fund draws on the inspirational pull of London 2012 to create local beacons for grassroots sport. They are investing £30m over the next three years in innovative, large-scale, multi-sport facilities' projects that are regionally significant for at least two sports and can demonstrate long-term financial viability.
